Dripping 2024

Picture this: You’ve arrived. Feel the grass underfoot and tap in: Summer is really here. The site is just like you remember: sprawling verdant forests and winding dirt paths with a distinctly mystical vibe that continues to reveal itself.

Once you’ve settled in, it’s time to commune. Head down to the lake for Teach Yourself to Fly, a Sonic Meditation conceived by Pauline Oliveros and performed by YOU. Loosen up your body, attune your senses and prepare for Deep Listening. At the Inn Carmen Villain plays the first concert of the weekend. The Norwegian composer will push the lower end of our sound system with intimate grace and otherworldly vastness. Gaze – the duo of Relaxer and aka-Sol – kicks off a club night focused on dubby immersions, humid crawls and punky edges. Azu Tiwaline and Elena Colombi co-headline the night, offering counterpoints to each other’s singular voices.

The iconic New York rave crew Groovy Groovy celebrates ten years of freedom with a two night takeover of the Barn. If you don’t already know, you’re about to find out fast: this crew is like none other. DJ Temporary debuts his live set; an ambitious world building project drawing heavily on psy-fi and fantasy. Kindred psy-freak LOIF makes the long commute from Australia, plunging into hidden aqueous worlds. NY’s The Large raises the temperature with proper sound clash anthems. Akanbi dips his toes in with some cheeky ambient sorcery. As always, no set times will be announced so blast off to Planet Groovy when the spirit summons you.

All weekend, you can lose yourself in installations by Pent and G. Zifcak. Both tweak the senses with eerie and jarring aesthetics that mesmerize even as they unhinge. Discover them in the Hammock Grove and the Dungeon Cafe, which will be serving your favorite earthly delights.

At dawn, Surya Botofasina leads a trio at Open Air. He’s a disciple of Alice Coltrane and the musical director for the Sai Anantam Singers, who perform her works today. Botofasina is a paragon of modern devotional music. Stretch out and welcome the day.

After some rest, we are back in it for Saturday’s program. There’s 22+ hours planned that run the gamut from quietly engaging and exploratory all the way to confrontation and catharsis. Writer Hannah Baer has invited a full crew of authors and poets to start us off. David Velasco, Early Shinada, Juliana Huxtable, Kyle Dacuyan and Zora Jade Khiry read Lakeside. NTHNL’s cosmic flute music follows, floating across the water. It’s an ethereal soundtrack to an afternoon of splashing around with friends. Ayanna Heaven increases the temperature, helming our first ever Lake party (with a BBQ) . She’s representing Groovy Groovy in between their club nights.

Outside the Inn, Hannah Baer and choreographer Josie Bettman deepen the experience with Reading and Movement, a bespoke workshop. We have no idea what to expect and are so excited to find out. At the Barn, experimental label Human Pitch presents a showcase of rainforest canopy electronica. Co-founders Simisea and Tristan Arp both perform solo, and are joined by international post-world trio Asa Tone.

Saturday’s concert at the Inn launches with a pair of solo performances of gripping beauty. Nailah Hunter and Bendik Giske are two artists whose work transcends the limitations of the unaccompanied performer. Each one conjures a universe - harpist Nailah Hunter’s music drawsdrawn on spellbound fantasy bringing you into a mystical forest. Giske’s extended techniques wrench erotic sonics from his instrument, redefining the queer avant garde

Step outside with two NY legends: Sigrid Lauren and Tongue in the Mind channel the city’s insanity in the grove just across the path. Lauren first gained notoriety as half of FlucT, the essential Brooklyn performance duo. She’s developed a new work for Dripping, serving peak time psychosis before the rave even begins; you’ve been warned. Tongue in the Mind - the trio of Juliana Huxtable, Jealous Orgasm and Via App - fuses art rock, weird grunge, fucked techno, spoken word and much more in a glammy performance that is just too sick. Incredible. These artists have operated in overlapping worlds for years, constantly sharpening the cutting edge.

Take a deep breath; it’s ripping time at the Inn. No more games; these DJs are going to tear your face off. x3butterfly, Kilbourne, Sully and upsammy comprise a collection of some of the most exciting and ferocious voices across the heavy, bass-weighted spectrum. Each offers a unique vision ranging from dubstep wobble to unmitigated hardcore assault to junglist mastery to unbridled IDM explorations of the highest order.

At midnight, the Open Air stage returns with a program that goes way deeper than a chill out room. Spread out under the stars - bring blankets, eye masks, whatever it takes to get you there. Joy Guidry blesses us with an hour of plaintive and harrowing solo bassoon music. Have you ever even heard a bassoon before? Not like this. Jake Muir plays the bathhouse blues, weaving erotic atmospheres and uncanny, spectral apparitions. Fresh off a stunning release on his newly-christened Pain Management label, Significant Other closes out the stage.

Finally, Groovy Groovy brings it home with night two of their ten year celebration. It’s time to get sexy. For this final run, each artist is fusing raw energy with a sense of pure joy and personal swag. More intimate, more sensual, it’ll be a party within the party. This international cohort hits with leftfield percussive bangers and throbbing low end – it’s an invitation to enjoyment with no limit. Chuki, Baby Leo and Akanbi represent the core Groovy family, with special guest Brava debuting from Spain. She’s an artist not to be missed. Enviably liberated, white hot energy, the id unleashed, so much fun. This is absolutely going off. Akanbi has been invited to stretch wayyyy out with impunity for the final set of the weekend. Believe us, he will squeeze you out like a sponge.

We’ve been planning this since the morning after our last festival, still in the van on the ride home. The rest is up to you. See you in Sparta.
